The Akaroa Mail. TUESDAY, JULY 29.

The football match between the Akaroa and French Farm teams took place on Saturday lastj in Mr Williams' paddock, Robinson's Bay, and resulted in the" defeat of the former. The details of the match will appear in our next.

We are quite sure our readers will learn with the deepest regret the death of Mrs Wm. Montgomeiy, the wife of our respected Representative in the General Assembly, which took place at her residence, Park Terrace, on the morning of Sunday last. The deceased lady took a warm interest in all matters regarding education, especially of girls, and we are sure that she will be much missed in Christchurch, in fostering and directing the efforts of many 'of the benevolent societies of that city. To our member our best sympathies are due, as we are aware that besides acting as a perfect wife —Mrs Montgomery took a keen interest in all political questions and in manydifficult and delicate political negotiations acted as Mr Montgomery's amanuensis. We can assure the honorable member for the district that nnder the present melancholy circumstances his constituents will excuse that regular attention in his place in the House which the present political emergencies demand. The funeral will take place.at tho Church of England Cemetery, Christchurch, at 3 p.m. to-morow.
