Weixingtcn, July 9. - Mr James Mackay has been temporarily appointed Government Agort to deiil with the Maori prisoners, arid the diances are that he will be commissioned to carry on negotiations with a viewto facilitate a settlement of the whole question. In case of success, legal proceedings against the arrested men will be allowed to drop.
