AKAROA AND WAINUI ROAD BOARD.

Saturday, June 14. A meeting of this Board was held on the above date at their offices, Duvauchelle's Bay. Present —Messrs Williams (Chairman), Curry, M'Donald, and Shadbolt. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. FRENCH FARM ROAD. Letters wero received from Messrs Shadbolt and Wardle, the contractors for the work on this road, and covering a letter from Mr A. C. Knight, threatening _ an action at law against them for tipping earth against his fences. Tho contractors requested to be informed what they were to do in the matter. The Board could give no advice in the matter, but advised tho contractors to do as little damage as possible. Mr for the contractors, wished to know if the Board would assist them in any action Mr Knight might take against the contractors. Mr Wardle was informed that the Board coidd not take any steps in the matter. Mr W. M'Kay waited upon the Board, and asked if they would grade a road out from the old Island Bay Spur to Lake Forsyth. The road had been graded to within ochains of above road, viz., to where Mr Thorpe's survey ceased. Mr M'Kay wa L 5 quite willing to bear the expense of the work if the Beard sent Mr Duxbury to grade the road. WALMSLEY ROAD. Mr Chas. Walmsley, Wainui, wrote, informing the Board that owing to Mr J. Bates having erected his house on the road used by" him (Mr Walmsley), he was unable to gain access to the main road, and asking, the Board to ..form the road in the proper place, so that he can havo access to the main road. On the motion of Mr M'Donald, Mr Duxbury was instructed to visit and report. Mr Waeckerle wrote, requesting that the Board scrape off the clay on the road near his house, Akaroa, as it kept the damp and choked up the drains. The Clerk of Works was directed to see to the matter, and do what was necessary. SUMMIT ROAD. The Clerk of the Pigeon Bay Road Board wrote, stating that they were prepared to pay the amount of their share of contract as let, £281 ss, on receiving the certificate of the Engineer that the work in question Was finished in a satisfactory manner. The Board instructed the Clerk to inform the Pigeon Bay .Road Board that the contract had been let on their representations that the money would be paid on the letting of the contract, and also that Mr Fenton had been appointed Engineer of the work, and that the Board required the ! money to make progress payments to the contractor. VANGIONI'S CONTRACT. Messrs Vangioni and Co. wrote, requesting the Board to pay the amount of the sum passed to them by the Engineer at last meeting, £51. Mr M'Donald moved that Mr Vangioni be written to enclosing copy of the Board's resolution, passed the 6th June last, and informed that he will have to get Mr Fenton's certificate for any further payments. The motion was seconded by Mr Shadbolt, and agreed to. ROAD THROUGH RHODES' FLAT. Mr Duncan Kennedy wrote, informing the Board that he would give up all claim to the old road through Rhodes' property, on the condition that the Board will give £250 towards the Wainui Pass : road. It was moved by Mr Shadbolt, that providing all parties interested will give their consent in writing to the stoppage of the old road, that the sum of £500 be considered as the amount awarded to them for so doing, and that this amount be equally divided and expended, viz., £250 in widening the Mount Bossu road through the Pilot Reserve to the width of 20 feet, and the remaining £250 to be expended on the proposed Wainui Pass road. The motion was seconded by Mr S. Curry and adopted. Messrs Snow and Anson wrote, asking for an outlet from Peraki to the Wainui Pass. The Board resolved that the same resolution would apply to their request as to Mr Kennedy's letter. IMPOUNDED LAND FUND. It was resolved to ask the Chairman of the Defence Committee, Mr Wilson, to see if that body were to take any steps in the way of getting the £100,000 divided amongst the Canterbury Road Boards. OLD DUVAUCHELLE'S BAY ROAD. The Clerk was instructed to again write the Chief Surveyor re tbe plan of the stoppage of the old Duvauchelle's road, near Mr Li beau's. PURPLE PEAK ROAD. The Clerk was also instructed to write to the Chief Surveyor, to allow Mr Welch, the Government Surveyor, to grade a road from the present liong Bay road to Purple Peak, keeping the western side of tho range; and the Clerk was. further instructed to write to Mr Fenton, asking him to withdraw any surveyors he' might havo on the work. Tenders. French Farm .Road. . Geo. Breitmever, three months, £423155. W. Chatfield.'four months, £581 10s. J. Wardle and Co., six months, £445 2s 6d. T. Brough and Co., three months, £428. John Gunning, four months, £380 10s. Lines, Lecomte and Co., four months, £450. : ; On the motion of Mr M'Donald John Gunning's tender was accepted. Keegan's Bridge. . A. Hawthorne, ono 'month,-' £15, which was accepted. All the tenders for the Mount Bossu contract at W. M'Kay's being informal, fresh tenders.were ordered tobo. called for next meeting. PAYMENTS.
