Head of the Bay Sports and Races.
These sports came "off" aa announced on Saturday last. The weather in the early' part of the forenoon was rather, threatening, which no doubt many from attending who would otherwise have put in an appearance. Later on, however, the day-turned out fine, and there was a very fair attendance of spectators on the'grouhd. The first race wae advertised to etart at 11.30, but it was noon before a beginning was made. The first event on the programme was the, Publicans' Puree, a handicap,; to be run in'heats. For this ifcce f fflx ; hdrses v/efe entered,, all of which accepted and came to the post. Lone Hand, however," bolted and/threw his r rider in attempting to start, and: the rest had to'be s'eni aWay , /vritihro|it him. In the first heat Blue Ribbon led f£r about half the distance, when Eql at came up and took the, lead, coming in first. In the second heat Bismarck cut out the running for a short distance, but was soon collared by Tarewa who* won this and the succeeding heat easily. iv
