AKAROA AND WAINUI ROAD BOARD.

Saturday, March 15. The usual fortnightly meeting of this Board was held on the above date, at their offices, Duvauchelle's Bay. Present —Messrs Williams (Chairman), Curry, and M'Donald. MOUNT BOSSU ROAD. Mr Vangioni. the contractor for this work, waited upon the Board to inform them that Mr Wright had given him notice to stop the work on this road. The Board instructed the contractor to go on with the work.* WAINUI PASS ROAD. A numerous deputation from Wainui waited on the Board to urge" that a road should be made from the Wainui Jetty to the Wainui Pass. Mr Anson and Mr M'Kay acted as spokesmen, and urged the necessity of the road in question as affording a means of communication from the valley to the plains. The Chairman was afraid that the cost would be too great. Mr M'Donald regretted that the absence of Mr Fenton, as he would be able to explain th<; nature of the work proposed. (Mr Fenton was afterwards in attendance.) He did not think that it would be as expensive as was apparently supposed. Very few properties would be encroached upon. He considered the road in question would tap a verj' valuable block of country. He believed that it required no great stretch of prophetic foresight to anticipate that before long this would be the main route for mails and passengers to and from the plains. The Chairman thought it would be better to defer consideration of the matter to a full meeting of the Board. At present there were only three members present. Ultimately the matter was left over for a full meeting. WAINUI VALLEY ROAD. Messrs Sadler, Phillips, and Thomas waited on the Board to urge the construction of a portion of this road of about 35 chains. The Chairman promised that the matter should receive attention from the Board. MINUTES. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. BELL'S ROAD AGAIN. . A petition was received from the purchasers of land on the Taka Matua estate, asking the Board to proceed with this road, as they had bought land with the road shown through the sections. It waß resolved that the petitioners be referred to Mr Tabart, and informed that, if that gentleman consented to dedicate the road in question the Board would execute the work. FRENCH FARM VALLEY ROAD. A letter was read from Mr S. Hunt, asking that thi3 road be made as far as his place, as it had already been laid out. It was resolved that Mr Dicken be written to, asking his consent for taking the road through his land. Mr Hunt to be informed that the road would be put in hand as soon as the necessary consent was obtained. AWARD RE BOROUGH AND ROAD BOARD. The Under-Secretary wrote, enclosing a copy of the award of the Commissioner in this matter. . A letter was also received from the ! Borough Council, asking for a cheque for the amount. '

To be taken into consideration with the accounts. BALGUERIE ROAD. Mr George Armstrong wrote, asking" that this road might be made lip to his property. Mr Duxbury was instructed to visit and report, and, if he found the road practicable, to prepare specifications for the work. FENCING LONG BAY ROAD. Mr Jules Lelievre wrote, asking the Board to make tho above a seven-wire instead of a six-wirp fence ; alsc, recommending a certain contractor. T" be informed that tenders had already been called for the work. J HORSE-SHOE BEND. Mr T. S. Johnson wrote, offering the land required from him lor £15, and two chains of fencing. Resolved that the offer be accepted. Also, suggesting certain alteiations in the Long Bay road. To be informed that the specifications would be adhered to. VALUATION ROLL. Mr G. Armstong wrote requesting certain alterations in regard to property belonging to his sons. Referred to the valuer. ENGINEERS' REPORT Three reports were received from Messrs Fentonand Wilkins, engineursto the Board, viz., on Haines' road, Waikerakikari road, and French Farm Valley road. Tenders. fencing gough's bay road. T. Brough and Co., two months, £150. J. Bray and Co., three months, £69. J. Cairns and Co., three months, £112 10s. Bray and Co.'s tender was accepted. WAINUI BRIDGE. T. Brough and Co., one month, £52 10s. J. Bassett and Co., six weeks, £75 10s. J. Wardle and Co., six weeks, £80. Brough and Co.'s tender was accepted. PAYMENTS. The following accounts were passed for payment:— Akaroa Borough Council award ... ~. .. £270 0 0 J. Wardle and Co., breastwork and lowering road... 22 0 0 Labor 4 9 0 Vangioni and Co., Mount Bossu road, contingent on Engineer's certificate ... 100 0 0 Printing and advertising ... 16 16 6 J. Johnson, progress payment .- ... 13 0 0 Fenton and Wilkins, engineering and labor 58 9 0 Do, part of account rendered to Okaih's Road Board for work on the Waikerakikari road ... 30 0 0 This last amount was past on the understanding that the Board did not commit itself as to what share of this work came within the boundary of this district. The Board then adjourned to Monday, March 31, as the County Council meeting falls on the day on which the Board usually meets.
