0 -■ : FROM THE LYTTELTON TIMES.

Christchurch, Friday Evening. GRAIN*AND PRODUCE.

The grain and seed business of this week has been in most respects very similar to that which preceded it. No very large parcels have been changing hands, and except in oats operations have been few, and trade continues inactive. In Wheat there have been few sales. \ First class milling sorts are still quoted at 3s 2d to 3s 3d, and other inferior samples 3s, or a shade lower. Oats have changed hands pretty freely. We have heard of fair sized parcels being placed at 3s to 3s Id for very good bright samples, and for first class heavy milling oats 3s 2d. Feed are quoted at 2s 8d to 2s lOd. Barley^—Choice lots are fetching 5s 6d to 5s 9d, and good average 4s 6d to ss. Potatoes.—Business is quite nominal. Small lots for local supply £5 to £6 per Flour is la steady moderate demand, the ■quotations being from £8 to £9, according to brand. . Bran and sharps remain unchanged, viz, £5 to £5 19s. Grass Seed.—ln rye grass a great many farmers' parcels are offering, but dealers are not showing any disposition to purchase more than present orders require. Firstclatjs dressed samples are worth from 5s to 6s. while inferior lots are only commanding 4s 3d to 4s 9d. Several very large parcels of North Island cocksfoot have been offering during the week without bringing out buyers. Merchants are apparently not disposed to operate in excess of any present orders, but we anticipate more extensive sales in this description of grass seed during the coming week. The present price is s£d to 6d per lb. Dairy Produce.—Butter is only in demand for local consumption, the price being lOd to Is; cheese, 6£d to 7d. Hams and bacon without alteration.

CORN EXCHANGE REPORT. The following is the Cern Exchange report for the week ending Friday evenin".— oWheat. —During the week a better feelin<* prevails, and several inquiries have bees made. The quotations of last week are well maintained, with a disposition to harden. First class milling wheat is free of sale at 3s 3d ; inferior to medium, 2s tOd to 3s. Oats. —The supply is-m excess of the local requirements. The feeling is that lower prices will have to be accepted before much business can be done. First class milling cannot be quoted at over 3s, while feed qualities will only command 2s 7d to 2s 9d per bushel. Barley.—First class malting samples are worth 6s; second-rate 4s 9d to 5s 4d. Peaa and Beans.—A few parcels of the former are in the market, and worth 4s 6d to 55 ; of the latter, none offering. Potatoes.--The local demand has been t.ptter supplied during the week. The yield of the early crops is turning out very r.sjui, with very inferior samples. The potatoes are badly shaped, and, as a, rule, affected with second growth. There is a prevailing feeling that the general crops will be similarly situated. The crops have suffered from the recent frosts and dry
