Lettersjwere read— ___~, From the 'Colonial Secretary's" office (circular), re granting extension of time to local bodies for completing' valuation roll. As the Board had never asked for extension of time, it was considered not to apply.. From the County Council, asking for information as to amount of valuation roll, and what roads the Council considered main roads, and their extent. From the same, stating that he would be in Akaroa shortly to settle claims fcr diversion of roads. CHAIRMAN'S STATEMENT. The Chairman gave an outline of the business to coma before the Board. The most important pouts they would have to consider would be question of what roads they inteailed to name to the County Council as main roads, and also to which of these they intended to devote the money which would be allocated by the Council. Of course it rested with the Council to confirm or veto their decision on the matter. Some other matters of detail would also come before them which appear hereafter in due course. MAIN ROADS. Mr Barnett thought that they were entitled to consider the road from Le Bon's to Little Akaloa, passing through Okain's, a main road. The Chairman considered that each village was entitled at any rate to one main road out of it, connecting it with the railway on the other side of the range. After considerable conversational discussion, it was resolved that the Board considered the following roads to be main roads—" From the summit to Little Akaloa, from thence to Okain's, to the summit, from the summit to Le Bon's Bay beach, from thence to Okain's." The Chairman said the next thing to be considered would be on which of these roada they intended to spend the money allocated. It was agreed to recommend the same works that were agreed to at a meeting i held on January 6, viz., Okain's Bay, Cotton's Diversion, Little Akaloa, New Valley road, and Cemetery road ; Le Bon's Bay, Panama and Beach road. CEMETERY ROAD, LITTLE AKALOA. Mr H. M'lntosh wrote, asking to have the points cut off this road. Consideration of the matter was deferred until next meeting. VALLKY ROAD, OKAIN'S. The Chairman reminded the Board that at last mseting they had authorized Mr CaHaghan to spend £10 on this roadJ He understood that Mr Callaghan had exceeded this amount considerably, and perhaps he . would explain the matter. Mr Callaghan made a long explanation, the gist of which was that he had got the work done for the amount in question, but that he had got some further work done which he considered necessary at a further cost of £11. The members present considered Mr Callaghan had exceeded his authority, but no motion was made on the subject, and the matter dropped. ■ '

It was resolved to write to'the supposed owner of the errant sheep, cautioning him to keep his sheep within bounds^ The Board then adjourned. "'
