AKAROA AND WAINUI ROAD BOARD

The usual fortnightly meeting of this Board was held on the above date, at their offices, Duvauchelle's Bay. Present—Messrs Williams (chairman), Curry, Shadbolt, M'Donald, and Duxbury.
INTERVIEWS,
Mr A. M'Phail waited, upon the Board to request that a piece of road might be made from the extremity of Woodill's contract, Wainui, to the boundary of the Little Eiver road district.
The Clerk was instructed to meet Mr M'Phail, and inspect the road in question. Mr M'Phail also complained that the Mill road, in the neighborhood of Akaroa, was partly on his land. In this case also the Clerk was instructed to visit and report. The same gentleman had another grievance, viz., that he had paid some rates to this Board and also to the Little River Board. He produced a receipt from the latter Board.
It was agreed to refund the amount paid to this Board.

Mr J. F. Koberts and Mr H. Piper attended to protest against the action being taken by the Board in the matter of this road. Mr Boberts read some memoranda on the question, but nothing new was elicited, lie maintaining that what the Board claimed as a road was part of the section which he had purchased. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. Letters were read— From Mr J. H. Menzies, declining to act as arbitrator on the gronnd that his acquaintance with the district was very small. From Mr J. Smith, Le Bon's Bay, asking that a road might be made from Le Bon's to Waikerakikari.
The Board agreed that the road should be put in hand at once. From Mr H. G. Watkins, re clearing Harman's track, stating that his sons had spent half a day in clearing the same. From the Colonial Secretary, stating that the memorial which the Board had forwarded re the placing of a constable at the Head of the Bay had been referred to the Commissioner of Police.

From Messrs Wynn Williams and Deacon, -stating , that they were instructed, as Mr Intnan's solicitors, to inform- the Board that the land known as Bell's road had not been conveyed for the purpose. A long conversation took place on this* fruitful source of discussion. Ultimately it was agreed that the matter should be ler't in abeyance till after Mr Bell's return. ACCOUNTS BETWEEN THE ROAD BOARD AND BOROUGH. Two letters were received from Justin Aylmer, Esq., informing the Board that he had been appointed Commissioner to adjudicate in this matter,, and that the enquiry had been adjourned till Wednesday, Feb. 5.
Mr Duxbury thought the Board should go into committee to consider the matter. The Board went into committee accordingly. A committee, consisting of the Chairman, and Messrs Duxbury and Shadholt, was appointed to go into the accounts, and report a special meeting of the Board to be held on February 8. In the the commissioner''to be asked for an adjournment of the enquiry.
[ALLOCATION OF FUNDS FROM COUNTY
• . COUNCIL. A letter was reaa v from the Chairman of the County Council, asking the Board to furnish the total amount of rateable property as given in the new valuation roll, together with the amount that should be derived from the last rate struck.
The Board was also asked to state what roads they considered to be main roads. The Clerk was instructed to furnish the information required in the first part of the letter ; with regard to the main roads, the Board decided that the following were to be considered main roads:—The road to Christchurch via Little River, the road to Pigeon Bay, the road to Okain's Bay from Duvauchelle's Bay, the road to Wainui and Mount Bossu, the road from Little Akaloa from Pigeon Bay saddle via Ridge road, the road to Long Bay, Gough's Bay, &c, from German Baj Hill, the road from Akaroa to the Maori Kainga. HORSE-SHOE BEND. It was decided to write to Mr Johnson, asking him for a piece of land to complete the new road at the Horse-shoe Bend. TENDERS. Tenders were ordered to be called for certain works, particulars of which appear in our advertising columns. PAYMENTS.
