The harvest being general throughout the country, sales have been smaller than usual. Prices for store cattle at Wainku showed an upward tendency. At Remutu to-day. fat cattle were numerous; 150 head were yarded, mostly good quality. For inferior cattle the bidding was slack, but all fairly fatted were in demand, and prices ranged from 27s for middling to 33s for prime, quality, with steady enquiry. Sheep are numerous ; stores, iioiaii.il value 3s to $s each, but fat sheep were in good enquiry—small sized wethers 3}d," large sheep, 3d per lb, ewes from 2sd to 3d. ,La-nibs. yieve numerous, and all of choice /quality were eagerly competed for. Best quality ranged feom- 10s. to 14s each, inferior from 3s to 5s each. Among the cattlo sold, the averages steers, £10 8a 6d ;24 steers,£9 Js 6d ; 5 steers, £10 7s; 8 steers, £9 10s.; £ steers, £8 13s 3d ; cows £7 ss; 8 steers, £9 10s ; 8 steers, £9 ss. ' : ' Dunedin sm. 9. The crops of wheat, oats, and barley in the Taieri district are now finely headed, and harvesting will commence towards the end of the month. The yield will be up to the average.
