Montgomery, Esq., had been invited.,.and kjndly,consented,,tagive a\fay the prizes. ;' ; : i 1 The gentleman having made some remarks respecting the efficiency of the school, dwelling especially upon the bad results thatjmust accrue from irregular attendance on the part of the children, also commenting upon the results of education generally, distributed the prizes, which were of a superior class, as follows:— Special prize for highest number of attendances for year 1878, gained by Chas. Richfield.

Class 3.—-Standard I—Victor de Malmanche, 1; Francois Le Vaillant, 2 ; Peter Shadbolt, 3 ; Amie Le Vaillant, 4 ; Mary Le Vaillant, 5. INFANTS. —Charles Richfield, 1 ; George Williams, 2 ; Charles Churchill, 3 ; Alfred Shadbolt, 4 ; Richard Shadbolt, 5 ; Henry Tizzard, 6 ; George Jarwyzuskie, 7 ; J. W. Martindale, 8; Ann Noonan, 9 ; James Heyward, 10 ; William de Malmanche, 11; Louis Le Vaillant, 12. The distribution of prizes being completed, the Chairman (Mr Whitiiold) addressed the meeting, particularly-urging upon the parents the necessity of endeavoring to send the children regularly to school, without which they (the children) could be no credit to themselves or their teachers. As a etiinulus lo the children, he (the Chairman) kindly promised a Bpecinl prizp for the highest attendance for the ensuing year. He then notified that the school would be closed for four weeks fur the Christinas holidays, and on behalf of the Committee and all noncerned thanked Mr Montgomery for the money wherewith the prizes had been purchased. Three hearty cheers were then given for Mr Montgomery, three for the Chairman of. the School Committee, and three for the master. Business now called the majority of the adults away ; but the children continued to enjoy themselves in the grounds, till dusk, when the proceedings were brought to a close by a comic reading by the master. All now dispersed, having enjoyed themselves thoroughly.
