"PURSUANT to •< The Canterbury _1 Roads Ordinance, 1872," and " The Regulation of Local Elections Act, 1876," I, John Barwick, Returning Officer for the Akaroa and Wainui Road District, hereby give notice that an ELECTION of TWO Members in the room of John Duxbury and Cole M'Donald, who retire in terms of the above ordinance, will be held at the office of the said Board, Duvauchelle's Bay, on SATURDAY, the 4th day of January next. The NOMINATION of Candidates, which must be in the form in the second schedule to the above Act, Avill take place at the said Road Board Office, at noon, on THURSDAY, the 20th instant, and the POLL (if necessary) will be taken at the said office on Saturday, the-lth day <d January, 1879, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Nomination Forms may be obtained at the office of the Akaroa Mail, or from the undersigned, at the Road Board OHieo. INNES M'GREGOR was appointed VALUER of the said Road District, in terms of " The Rating Act, 1876," and clause 7 is now published for general information. Clause 7.—" It shall be lawful for any " valuer to enter at any time during the " day upon any* land or premises for the " purpose of valuing the same and to put " to the occupier or owner thereof any ** question he thinks fit touching any of; " the particulars he is to furnish in the "Valuation List; and any person oh- " structing a valuer in the performance of -' his duty herein or refusing or wilfully " neglecting to answer any such question " shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding •• ten pounds."
