Mr Meech, the Chairman, on behalf of the Committee, intimated to the children that they had arranged to give three weeks 1 holidays, and he hoped that at the end of that time they would return altogether fit and willing for fresh studies. He had also to thank Mr Nicholls and his assistants, Misses Thomas and Bruce, for the great care and attention they had given to their several classes, especially complimenting them on the orderly conduct of their pupils. Mr Nicholls begged to thank the Committee and the children,on behalf of himself and his colleagues for the kindly expressions of feeling. The only complaint he had to make was the old one against parents not sending their children regularly to school. As long as this was the case, they could not possibly get on themselves, and they retarded the progress of others. He must remind the scholars that they had no right to prizes; they were only marks of progress given by Mr Montgomery and some other kind friends to indicate the interest -taken in their advancement. The great prizes at school were the attainment of knowledge and the getting of good and orderly habits. He would like the children to give three cheers for Mr and Mrs Montgomery and the other donors of prizes. Three cheers were most enthusiastically given, and after order had been restored, the Chairman thanked the examiners for their attendance. The Rev. Mr Anderson expressed the pleasure it had been to him and the other examiners at being present, and the school then broke up for the holidays.
