INNES M'GREGOR was appointed VALUER of the said Road District, in terms of « The Rating Act, 1876," and clause 7 is now published for general information. Clause 7.—" It shall he lawful for any " valuer to enter at any time during the " day upon any land or premises for the " purpose of valuing the same and to put " to the occupier or owner thereof any " question he thinks fit touching any of " the particulars he is to furnish in the " Valuation List; and any person ob- " atructing ft valuer in the performance of " his duty herein- or refusing or wilfully " neglecting to answer any such question " 6hall be liable to a penalty not exceeding '■ ten pounds." Their Gift she at first wished to give for the benefit of the Altar ; but, considering the matter over, thought it preferable to spend the £10 towards the starting of a Bazaar, which will take place some time next March, under the patronage of the Rev. P. Donovan. Mademoiselle once more desires to express her gratitude to her fellow-members, for having by their donation given her some assistance in bringing forward a long cherished plan, and she sincerely hopes that they who have given her ■such credit and thanks for the past, will no doubt be only too happy to give their help, and do their utmost, that her enterprize may turn out for God's glory and the benefit of the Catholic Church. Ladies desirous of helping and advising Mademoiselle in her undertaking will kindly call at her father's residence on Wednesday afternoon, December 18, at 8 o'clock. Akaroa, Dec. 14, 1878. PURSUANT to "The Canterbury Roads Ordinance, 1872," and " The Regulation of Local Elections Act, 1876," I, John Barwick, Returning Officer for the Akaroa and Wainui Road District, hereby give notice that an ELECTION of TWO Members in the room of John Duxbury and Cole M'Donald, who retire in terms of the above ordinance, will be held at the office of the said Board, Duvauchelle's Bay, on SATURDAY, the 4th day of January next. The NOMINATION of Candidates, which must be in the form in the second schedule to the above Act, will take place at the said Road Board Office, at noon, on THURSDAY, the 26th instant, and the POLL (if necessary) , will be taken at the said office on Saturday, the 4th day January, 1879, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Nomination Forms may be obtained at the office of the Akakoa Mail, or [ from the undersigned, at the Road Board Office.
