FRO-. THE LYTTELTON TIMES. . Christchurch, Friday Evening. GRAIN AND PRODUCE.

In looking over the business of the past week; we have-no improvement to record. In every, department of the market the same inactivity is noticeable in a greater or less degree. The weather lately, we'regret to say, has not greatly improved the farmers' prospects. In some •of the districts, at the beginning of the week, they have had slight showers, but the sultry heat experienced since has, in a measure;counteracted the benefit derived. In the southern parts of the the crops -are looking much healthier than in the districts lying nearer Christchufch,**as these places have been favoured at intervals with rain-fall, and further; the general character of the land is better ; able to stand a dry season Wheat.—We repeat our quotation of last week, 3s 9d to 4s. Oats. —There is nothing doing, although small lots are wanted. Feed are quoted at '3s lOdto 4s.

Floor remains without change. Price's range from £9 to £10, according to brand. The business has only been moderate. Grass Seed. —Judging from the number of strippers that are being turned out at our implement makers, the crop of rye gr__s does not promise to be any more favourable than that of last year, and the return then was bad enough. There is every indication of the > extreme opening rates of last season obtaining again this.

Dairy Produce.—There is only a moderate enquiry for butter at. 8d to B£d. The demand for cheese has slightly abated ; old is quoted at 6d to 6£d. The new is coming into the market, but we have not heard of much business. Hams and bacon in cloth 7_i to Bd.
