Complaints are being made as to> short weights in tradesmen's shops, and the bad quality of milk brought into the city from the country districts.

The heavy rain of Sunday morning did considerable damage to roads and bridges in the country places outside the city, but none in town. A number of bridges have been carried away. The schooner Torea was totally wrecked in Tory Channel yesterday near Wellington Heads. She struck oh a rock while beating down channel, and had to be beached. She is now on the beach full of water. Inconsequence of the prevailing fine weather a good deal of cargo of the Southminster is being saved ; 200 cases of kerosene, amongst other, staff, are being brought up to-day. The Chamber of Commerce intend moving in the matter of the railway terminus, with the object of getting Government to re-consider their decision and place the railway station where it lias always been understood it would be placed. The Southminster enquiry concluded without eliciting any fresh evidence.
