(per prkss agency.) Auckland, Nov. 26. Three thousand people attended Father Hennebery's service last night. The death is announced of Mother IVfary Cecilia, Superioress of the Sisters of Mercy. She founded the convent 30 years ago. A private letter describing the wreck <sf the Tubal Cain, states that she foundered off the reef at the south-east point of Oho Elan at night. The vessel has been stripped and the wreckage ■sold. Greytown, Nov. 26. A man, giving the name of .James Murphy, has been arrested here, charged with having last night committed a violent rape on a little girl, at Maroa, ■near Greytown. The child was about nine years of age. Dunedin, Nov. 26. At a meeting held last night it. was resolved to contribute the sum of £200 of the surplus funds of the flood relief committee to the sufferers by the Waimate fire. A meeting of master builders, held last night, resolved not to advance wages beyond the current rates, which are— •plasterers, 15s ; bricklayers, 14s ; masons, 14s ; carpenters, 12s ; painters, 12s ; labourers, 8s and 9s. In the District Court to-day Messrs -Joyce and Adams, Dunedin solicitors, were censured by Judge Bathgate for having informed the defendant in an assault case that unless he made reparation for the assault, criminal proceedings would be taken- As defendant ■did not do so, a civil action was brought.
