Mr Bar_ ton intimated that in such case he would be compelled to leave Wellington, and in all probability resign his seat in Parliament. Mr Hutchinson's supporters are endeavoring to get the legality of the- ' election of Mr Dransfield as Mayor tested in the Supreme Court. The validity of the election is being disputed on _ several grounds, one being that some five lor six voted who, though on the roll, had no legal right to vote. Nelson, Nov. 28. The loss is estimated at nearly £1000.
