DISCOMFORTS OF ROADSIDE HOTELS.

, ——,_* To the Editor of the Akaroa Mail. Sib—Permit me, through your columns, to draw attention to the disgraceful way in which some of the hotels on the Peninsula are kept. Travelling to Akaroa some timo ago, I had occasion to stop at a roadside hotel. I was shown to a bedroom, in which there were two beds; there was no soap, no comb, and I went to three rooms before I could get and then it waa only abou t

three inches long, and possessed of, on an average, three teeth to the inch ; the towel was dirty, and the brushes perfectly clotted with hairs of every hue. On asking for some tea, I was shown into the steaming hot kitchen, though there is, as I afterwards found, a good dining-room in the house. There was neither lemonade, soda-water, claret, or any light* wine in the house, with the exception of some very fiery sherrj'. Can this sort of thing not be remedied ? as it is really hard that, when one is compelled to put up at a hotel, the bare comforts and necessaries of life should be thus grudgingly bestowed, and one should lie in discomfort through either the negligence or penury of ihe landlord. Yours, __c. VIATOR.
