I have, as you arc aware, taken an active part in the administration of local affairs for the past fourteen years, in the Provincial Council and the Road Board, and more recently at the meetings of the Council since the formation of Akaroa into a Borough. During the whole (f that period I can confidently say that my only aims have been to promote the interests of our district, and in the future you may be well assured my only objects will be those of the public weal. In the absence of any question Involving strong differences of opinion, I may say, should you do me the honor to elect me, that my best energies will be directed towards reducing the daily increasing overdraft at the Bank, and endeavoring to make every year pay its own expenses. I have, as you are aware, ample time at my disposal, which I purpose placing entirely at the service of the Burgesses, and having passed the meridian of life, hope to preside at the deliberations of the Council with that calmness and fairness which are the results of experience and years. I fear that it will be impossible for me to personally see many of you prior to the day of election (to-morrow). I JAMES FRASER ROBERTS, , Returning Officer for the Borough of Akaroa, hereby give notice, that in conformity with the provisions of " The Municipal Corporations Act, 1876," and " The Regulation of Local Elections Act, 1876," an ELECTION will be held at the offices of the Akaroa Borough Council, on TUESDAY, the 10th day of December, 1878, for the purpose of electing ONE Councillor to fill up an extraordinary vacancy. The NOMINATION of Candidates, which must be made in the manner provided in the 11th clause of the second recited Act, will take place at the said Borough Council Offices, at noon, on FRID \Y, the 29th day of November, current, and a Poll (if necessary) will be taken at the said offices between the hours of 9 .a.m. and 6 p.m., on Friday, the 20th day of December, 1878.
