ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.

[We are at all times ready to give expression to every shade of opinion, but in no case do we hold ourselves responsible for the sentiments of our correepondents.3

ELECTION OF MAYOR,

To the Editor of the Akaroa Mall.

Sib, —Now the nominations have closed, I may be allowed to express my opinions on the merits of the -two gentlemen nominated. I consider that neither of them are suitable men to hold the position of Mayor of Akaroa, for it requires a man who can devote a good deal of spare time and money to the public, and I think the candidates will admit they have not too much of either to spare. Who knows but that the Governor may call here, and of course his Worship niust give a grand dinner or ball or something of that kind, or if an English Man-of-war happened to call in, the captain and officers should be entertained by him in a suitable manner. He should also head all the subscription lists to the extent of about £5 to keep up the dignit}' of the office. I consider that the Mayor of Akaroa should calculate on spending quite £150 per annum for the good of the place, and the honor of holding office. Those are my opinions, and I think; they are shared by a great many others. —Yours, <£c, ELECTOR.
