COUNTY COUNCIL ELECTION.

The nominations for the above took place on Wednesday last. For Berard Killing, Mr F. W. Williams, proposed by Messrs Duxbury and Shadbolt was returned unopposed. At the time appointed, the Return-ing-officer made the usual declaration of Mr Williams' election. There were present only the successful candidate, one of his proposers, one elector, and our representative. Had any number of electors put in an appearance, Mr Williams was prepared to have addressed them. He will probably take an early opportuity of doing so through our columns. For Wainui Air E. O.*Latter also had, as we anticipated, a walk over. There was no contest in either Okain's Bay, or Little River, Mr J. B. Barker, the lato-sitting member forßaupo, being returned unopposed for the former Riding, and Mr Coop for the latter. For Le Bon's Bay there are three candidates in the field, vie :—Mr Dalglish, member of of the late Countj* Council Mr J. E. Thacker, and Mr W. Barnctt*.. We-un-derstand that the last named gentleman only consented at the eleventh hour to oome forward, and it is expected that he will retire from the contest before the polling day

In the Tai Tapu Riding considerable interest was manifested in the proceedings on the nomination day. Mr J. Gebbie, who represented Little River in the late Council, was nominated by Messrs Reeves and Edmonds, and Mr J, J. Herrick, an old settler in the district, was nominated by Messrs Forbes and Tanner. The contest promises to be a close one, and the seat will be hotly contested. By advertisement elsewhere it will bo seen that the polls will be taken on Wednesday next. Up to the time of- our going to press no intelligence had reached us from Pigeon Bay, Port Levy, or Port Victoria.
