Marquis, imported from Victoria, bred by J. Brown, Esq,Preston Hall, Lower Plenty, by Prince Charlie (imported), and out of Mr Brown's celebrated mare Old Jean, winner of eleven First Prizes, and was never beaten. Marquis has gained fourteen First Prizes, and four Second Prizes in Victoria, and since he was imported to Otago he has gained three First and five Second Prizes. King Phillip, by Camden, out of a daughter of Shiel-na-Guiray.is nearly full brother to Eclat, and won several races in New Zealand ; and, lastly, Eclat is closely related to the celebrated horse of the day—Chester. !
