OKAIN'S BAY ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of the Board was held in Little Akaloa, on Saturday, the 26th ultimo. Present — Messrs Barker (Chairman) Boleyn, Callaghan, Pawson and Sefton. x\fter the minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed, the Chairman mentioned that since the last special meeting Mr Smith, of Le Bon's Bay, had complied with the request of the Board, and sent in a written tender for erecting a crane on the jetty at Le Bon's, and that he had accepted the same at £25, subject to the conditions mentioned therein, and the Board approved of Mr Barker's action in the matter. A numerously signed petition was handed in from the ratepayers in Le Bon's Bay, praying the Board to take steps for the erection of a Public Pound in that place. In reply to the Chairman, the Clerk stated that thero was a suitable site in the Bay for the purpose, belonging to the Board, but that he did not believe they had power to grant the request of the petitioners without the consent of the County Council, as the Superintendent was the person formerly empowered to do so, and it seemed in this instance that such power could only be exercised by the Council. It was then moved by Mr Callaghan, and seconded by Mr Pawson—" That the Clerk forward the petition to the County Council at their next meeting, and if they approve of the same, this Board take steps to erect the Pound as requested." Carried. It was proposed by Mr Boleyn, seconded by Mr Pawson, and carried—" That tenders be invited for felling and clearing the bush on the Main Valley road from Okain's to Duvauchelle's Bay, known as Cotton's diversion, previous to benching the same.'' Regarding the newly surveyed Road from Le Bon's to Laverick's, as mentioned by Mr Knight at the last meeting, it was agreed to write to the Chief Surveyor, requesting an explanation as to the stoppage of the Old road without communicating with the Board, as they never knew anything about the matter until mentioned to them by Mr Knight, and do not know yet how such a thing has happened. It was moved by Mr Sefton, and seconded' by Mr Callaghan—" That tenders be called for widening the Main Valley road, Little Akaloa, seven, feet from present benching, or fourteen feet in all, from the ridge down to Turner's house." Carried. The Clerk was instructed to write to Mr. Williams, the Board's Solicitor, asking hin£. to forward, for signature, the of conveyance for the land taken, from Messrs Boleyn and Pawson as soon as possible. The following Tenders were then accepted : —Hill road, Okain's, J. James, £29 ; Waterfall road, Akaloa, A. Waghorn, 12s per chain ; Jetty Road, Akaloa, H. Waghorn, £20.
Sundry accounts were then passed for payment amounting to £38, and the Board adjourned to meet in Okain's on Saturday the 30th November.
