To the Editor of the Alcaroa Mail. 4 ' ' Sir,' —Permit me to reply to a letter in : -"~ your last week's issue, signed J. F. Roberts, -n ~ in which that gentleman takes exception, '"■ not only to your report which he says is likely to mislead the public, but also to. certain statements which I made at the reported meeting. With the first portion'" of Mr Eoberts' letter as to whether the tracing which he produced was copied from the regular sale plan or not, is a .. private matter entirely between himself and the professional gentleman who prepared, what is termed the regular sale plan, and if that document itself had been •■. produced it would not have had any -**=f weight whatever so far as affecting the ' - '■*■ question at issue, viz., the stoppage of the ** approach to the Le Bon's Bay bridle track from the German Bay Main Valley road, and giving the same in exchange for a diversion to a branch road known as Mora's, '.' ~~id because if a majority of the members of * j the Eoad Board decided to promote the.' stoppage, and to promote is all they can promise to do, the question will have to be.' referred to a ratepayer's meeting , , and if successful thereat, to the County Council. Mr Roberts says he did not understand the meaning of the assertion which I made in reference to his blocking up the road in question. A man in Mr Boberts' employment certainly did ~ block up the road by placing hurdlea across it. I never mentioned the gate ' which Mr Eoberts closed and fastened, ;as I knew it was not .on the road and that he had a perfect right to do so. It is but ■ fair to say that probably the man acted without, or contrary to, orders, as I am not aware that they were replaced a second time after being thrown down. I was also charged by Mr Piper at the late meeting with being an interested party. This did not surprise me much, yet it is bad policy in the every-day game known as u .catchey spondulix," (Heathen Chinee) to , --charge your opponents with foul play before the game begins ; of course there are different ways in which a person may be Considered * interested, out of curiosity, or patriotism, as a ratepayer, and member of the Board who does not like to see money wasted, I may be said to be interested, but I defy w any one having the slightest regard for truth to prove that I am pecuniarily interested in any other way. The owner of the small section No. 881 might be an in-. terested party, as the stopping of the old" road would deprive that section of ■ th& whole.of its frontage on that road. Mr - Eoberts' letter isr Very funny and amus- ■ ing. motft. v.-here he ilons the dark' austerity, and tells us onr remarks' were non-professional and consequently.' <
