THE NEW COURT-HOUSE BUILDINGS.

To the Editor of the Akaroa Mail. Sir, —Some time ago I noticed in the columns of your valuable journal a remark to the effect -that the contract for the new Court-house buildings was let to Messrs Sigley and Dixon. Why have these gentlemen not commenced work ? Can it be true, what is reported, that the Akaroa and Wainui Road Board refuse to allow the work to proceed, and, dog-in-the-manger like, will neither use the site themselves, nor let the contractors do so ?

Surely, for the furtherance of a public work of such importance to the district we should all work together, and do all in our power to assist—not delay things by puerile splitting of straws over points of absolutely no import in the end. Again, Mr Editor, cannot the Govern - men. force the Board to vacate the site? I trust someone more able than myself will take this matter up. and let us see the work in hand and progressing. Yours, &c, FIVE 808 AND COSTS.
