'J ho ; :fstatioit-mas ter at Palmerston, without awaiting the arrival of this train, started- the* passenger train for Oamaru at the usual time, thinking that the goods train would ran on to a siding,- nnd the accident happened five minutes after the departure of the passenger train. The noon train frapi Oamaru did not arrive till 3 pm. in consequence of the accident. The damage to the engines is hot so great as was st first expected. The breaking of the buffer of one of them aud the damaging of the buffers of two of the waggons were the oill| injuries sustained by the plant.
