AKAROA AND WAINUI ROAD BOARD.

Special Meeting,

Saturday, Sept. 21

Present—Messrs Duxbury (in the chair), Curry, Williams, Shadbolt, and McDonald. I The minutes of the last regular meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. . From the Pigeon Bay Eoad Board, asking information as to what steps the Board intended taking in the matter of the Summit road to Haines' Hotel. From Mr Moore, writing on behalf of Mr Keegan, to the effect that Mr Nalder had the conveyance signed by the mortgagee, but refused to produce it until the extra cost was paid by Mr Keegan, a charge which that gentleman objected to payit was resolved that a copy of the letter be sent to Mr Nalder for explanation. From Mr G. W. Nalder, Solicitor, stating that the plans and description of the land to be purchased from Mr H. Piper had been taken by the Engineer for the purpose of making some alteration in them, and that they had not been returned. The transfer was read}' for execution, but could not be completed until the Surveyor returned the plans. From Mr E. Lelievre, complaining of the fencing along his property on the Long Bay road diversion, also enclosing his account for his share of the work as previously stipulated. The Clerk was instructed to visit Mr Lelievre's fence, and, where it was necessary, was authorized to put earth so as to make the fence a legal one. From Mr H. Magee, asking the Board to make a bridle track by Mr M'Donald's, Purple Peak, as being the shortest route to Long Bay and Stony Bay, and stating that at present they had i to go through private property, which might at any time be stopped against them, when thqy would be at a loss for a road. ; There being no less than three different applications for this line of road, viz., by Mr M'Donald's. by Mr Lelievre's, and by Mr Mullens', the Board-considered that Mr Armstrong, who would be affected in either case, should be consulted, and the Cleric was accordingly instructed to write to that gentleman, asking him which line he approved. From Messrs Sigley and Dixon, contractors for the new Court House buildings, stating their wish to rent a portion of the yard in x\karoa during the term of the Board's occupation, and offering a nominal rent of 6d per week. The Board agreed to decline the offer. From Mr W. Mai by, requesting the Clerk to visit and see what work was to be done on the Cemetery road where the culvert had been broken in. The Clerk explained that he had been informed that Mr Lardner had been carting shingle from the beach at this place, and had deliberately., cut away the bank so as to make a road for himself, and the dray coming on to the culvert had caused the damage. The Clerk was instructed to write to Mr Lardner in terms of clause 93, subsection 3, of the Canterbury Roads Ordinance. ENGINEER. The Board then went into Committee on the subject of the terms of agreement at present existing between the Board and their Engineer, the following resolution being the result—'"That Mr Fenton be asked to attend the meeting of the Board on Saturday, 28th inst., for the purpose of re-considering the agreement with the Board, and .explaining other matters of detail. Subsequently, the Engineer was present, and, having received the Board's plan of agreement, asked time to consider the same, which was granted. Mr Martindale waited on the Board with reference to payment for the fencing done on the Okain's road, and stated he was unaware of the correct measurement, but was willing to accept tke Board's estimate. ; The Clerk was instructed to give the correct measurement; also, to write to Messrs Thompson and Parkinson, Christchurch, requesting them to send to the Board a plan of the Cemetery road, and the severance of the land passing from Mr Li beau to the Board. A letter was received from Mr W. Kenny, enclosing his account, stating that he had sent it to the Engineer last month, but had not yet been paid, and requesting the Board to settle it. The Engineer explained that until certain alterations had been made, and errors in the work corrected, he could not give his certificate that the work was passed. The account was accordingly ordered to stand over. PAYMENTS. E. Lelievre £10 0 0 J. Daly 1 " 0 7 H. The Board then adjournsd to one o'clock on the 28th inst.
