BOROUGH OF AKAROA. PUBLIC NOTICE ■ By-law No. 2, 1878. A By-law to regulate the Licensing and Management of Slaughter-houses and the inspection thereof and of cattle intended for slaughter in the District and Borough of Akaroa. In pursuance of the" provisions of the Municipal Coporations Act 1876 and Tbe Slaughter-houses Act 1877 the Council of the Borough of Akaroa do hereby ordnr as follows tbat is to say— 1. Interpretation—Wherever in this bylaw any of the terms mentioned in section 5 of the Slaughter-houses Act 1877 are used such terms shall in the construction hereof have the meanings assigned to them by the said section of the said Act unless there be something in the context or subject matter repugnant thereto. 2 Fee for Slaughter-house License— There shall be paid to tho Borough Fund in respect of every License issued by the Borough Council for a Slaughter-house and in respect of every renewal of any such License the sum of Two Pounds Ten Shillings sterling. 3. Slaughter-houses to be Kept Clean— Every keeper of a Slaughter-house shall at all times keep the same and the premises connected therewith and the appurtenances thereto belonging in a clean state and free from offensive effluvia and in all respects to the satisfaction of any inspector appointed or to be appointed under The Slaughter-houses Act 1877 and every such keeper of a Slaughter-house shall so dispose of the blood offal drainage and other refuse matter therefrom that the same shall not create a nuisance nor be offensive to persons residing or being in or passing through the neighborhood of such Slaughter-house and no keeper of a Slaughter-house shall permit any blood offal drainage or refuse matter to accumulate in upon or about the same or the premises connected therewith or to flow fall or be thrown or put into any river stream drain or watercourse. Every person who shall commit a breach of this by-law shall on conviction thereof be liable to a penalty not exceeding Five Pounds and every such penalty shall be recovered in the manner provided for the recover}' of penalties by the said last mentioned Act. 4. Fees for Inspection of Cattle—There shall be paid to such Inspector as aforesaid by every keeper of a Slaughter house in respect of cattle slaughtered therein the fees following that is to say for all large cattle the sum of Threepence for every head thereof and for all small cattle the sum of Threepence for every dozen head thereof provided that if and whenever the number of small cattle slaughtered in any one week in any such Slaughter-house shall exceed eight dozen head the sum to be paid in respect thereof shall be at the rate of Threepence for every dozen head thereof up to eight dozen head and Twopence for every dozen head thereof above eight dozen head. The resolution to make this By-law was adopted at a special meeting of the Akaroa Borough Council, held at the Council Chambers, on Wednesday, the 26th June, 1878, and confirmed at a subsequent meeting of the said Council, held at the same place, on Wednesday, the 7th day of August, 1878. Notice is hereby given, that this Bylaw No. 2 will come into force in the Borough of Akaroa, on Monday, the 30th day of September, 1878. Dated at Akaroa, this 19th day of September, 1878. HENRY G. TO STAND THIS SEASON, AT O'REILLY" & CO.'S STABLES, Aearoa, That Pure Clydesdale Stalliou LORD CLYDE LORD CLYDE is seven years old, by Marquis, out of an imported mare, and is a sure foal-getter. Marquis, imported from Victoria, bred by J. Brown, Esq,PrestonHall, Lower Plenty, by Prince Charlie (imported), and out of Mr Brown's celebrated mare Old Jean, winner of eleven First Prizes, and was never beaten. Marquis has gained fourteen First Prizes, and four Second Prizes in Victoria, and since he was imported to Otago he has gained three First and five Second Prizes. LORD CLYDE will be in Pigeon Bay on Mondays ; in Okain'a Bay on Tuesdays ; and at O'Reilly's Livery Stubles the rest of the week. For terms and further particulars, apply to the owner.
