' A By-law to regulate the Licensing and * Management of Slaughter-houses and the inspection thereof and of cattle intended for slaughter it) the County of Akaroa. In pursuamo of the provisions of the Counties Act 1876 and The Slaughterhouses Ait 1877 the Council of the County of Akaroa do hereby ordut as follows that is to say— 1. Interpretation—Wherever in this'bylaw any of the terms mentioned in section 5 of the Slaughter-houses Act 1877 are used such terms shall in the construction hereef have the meanings assigned to them by the said section of the said Act unless there be something in the context or subject matter repugnant thereto. 2 Fee for Slaughter-house License— There shall be paid to the County Fund ■ in respect of every License issued by the County Council for a Slaughter-house and in respect of every renewal of any such License the sum of Ten Shillings until the end of the present year and from and after that date the sum of One Pound sterling. 3. Slaughter-houses to be Kept Clean— Every keeper of a Slaughter-house shall at all times keep the same and the premises connected therewith and the appurtenances thereto belonging in a clean state and free from offensive effluvia and in all respects to the satisfaction of any inspector appointed or to be appointed under The Slaughter-houses Act 1877 and every such keeper of a Slaughter-house shall so dispose of the blood offal drainage and other refuse matter therefrom that the same shall not create a nuisance nor be offensive to persons residing or being in or passing through the neighborhood of such Slaughter-house and no keeper of a Slaughter-house shall permit any blood offal drainage or refuse matter to accumulate in upon or about the same or the premises connected therewith or to flow fall or be thrown or put into any river stream drain or watercourse. Every person who shall commit a breach of this by-law shall on conviction thereof be liable to a penalty not exceeding Five Pounds and every such penalty shall be recoverable in the manner provided for the recovery of penalties by the said last mentioned Act. 4. Fees for Inspection of Cattle-—There shall be paid to such Inspector as aforesaid by every keeper of a Slaughter-house in respect of cattle slaughtered therein the fees following that is to say for all large cattle the sum of Threepence for every head thereof and for all small cattle the sum of Threepence for every dozen head thereof provided that if and whenever the number of small cattle slaughtered in any one week in any such Slaughter-house shall exceed eight dozen head the sum to be paid in respect thereof shall be at the iate of Threepence for every dozen head thereof up to eight dozen head and Twopence for every dozen head thereof above eight dozen head. The resolution to make this by-law was adopted at a special meeting of the Council of the County of Akaroa, held at the House on the Hill Top, Barry's Bay, on Thursday, 4th July, 1878, and was confirmed at a subseqaent meeting of the said Council, held at the ?ame place, on Thursday, August 1, 1878. A SPECIAL MEETING of the f\ County Council will be held at the House on the Hill Top, on THURSDAY 26th September Next, at 11 a.m., to confirm the following resolutions, passed at a Special Meeting of the said Council, held August 21): — 1. That this Council considers that one member should be taken from the Okain's Road Board District now represented by the three ridings of Raupo, Okain's, and Le Bon's, and that Little River riding should return two members instead of one as at present. 2. That the Okain's Bay Road District be divided into two ridings ; that the Main Valley Road, Okain's Bay, from sec. 20956 to sec. 4976 be the boundary, and that they be called Le Bon's Riding and Okain's Riding. 3. That the Little River Riding be divided into two ; that the boundary be the Kaituna River to its source westward of sec. 12357 ; thence in a direct line to Mount Herbert Peak ; and that the ridings be called Little River and Tai Tapu respectively.
