CORN EXCHANGE REPORT.
The following is the report for the week ending Friday evening :— Grass Seed.—Cocksfoot is wanted, and can be placed at 7d to 7jd per lb. Potatoes.—The inquiries for potatces . for seed purposes are very great. Purchasers are inclined holding back their orders for a time in preference to paying the high rates demanded by the holders. Sales have been made at extreme rates for pressing orders. Holders are asking £4 10s to £5 per ton. The market is firm. There seems to be a general feeling that the stocks held by the farmers will barely supply the local requirements. Cheese and Butter. —The demand for cheese and butter is not so brisk. Cheese is saleable in limited parcels at od to s_|d per lb. Butter, according to condition, at 7d to lOd per lb. Messrs R. Wilkin and Co report:— -Wool--A few bales and some bags mixed wool were sold at prices from lid to ls per lb. Sheepskins—At our sales on Thursday 6323 skins were catalogued, and all sold. There was a very large attendance of the trade, and biddings were spirited throughout, with the following prices:—Butchers' crossbred, large fullwoolled, 6s 6d to 7s Id each ; ditto, ditto, medium, three-fourths to full-woolied, 6s to 6s Gd each ; ditto ditto ditto, two-thirds two-thirds to three-fourths woollcd, 5s 4d to 6s each ; ditto ditto ditto, half to iwothirds woolied; 4s 9d to 5s 4d each ; ditto ditto, small and inferior, 4s to 4s 9d each ; butchers' merino, large, well-woolled, 5s to 5s 6d each ; ditto ditio medium, twothirds to three-fourths svoolled, 4s6d to 5s each; ditto ditto ditto naif to two-thirds woolied, 3s lOd-to 4s 6d each ; ditto ditto, small and inferior, 3s 2d to 3_ lOd each. Pelts, large, and fairly woolied, ls 3d to 2s each ; ditto, small and inferior, Id to ls 3d each ; country cross-breds, dry, from 2s 6d to 6s 5d each ; ditto, merino, dry, from 2s 7d. to 5s each. Tallow—There was a large quantity of butchers' rough fat catalogued, and all sold. The attendance of buyers was good and the prices even, as follows :—-Best clean well saved, 2£d to 3d per lb ; second quality, 2|d to 2Jd per Jb : inferior and heated, 2d to 2-kl per lb. Hides—-We catalogued a large number of hides on Thursday, and although there was no attendance of the trade, we found a purchaser for salted at4£d per ib. Fresh hides and calfskins unsold.
