AKAROA RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
Tuesday, July 30.
(Before Justin Aylmer, Esq., R.M.)
CATTLE TRESPASS. S. Giles was charged with having allowed five bullocks to wander at large at Barry's Bay. The defendant pleaded that the cattle did not belong to him. He had them for working purposes on an agreement with Mr Latter. After working hours they were out of his charge and control. The agreement was handed in. The Bench considered that by the terms of the agreement he was responsible for the bullocks, and accordingly fined the defendant 10s and cost. The Court then adjourned.
Wednesday, July 31. (Before Justin Aylraer, Esq., R.M.,) KILLING CATTLE WITH INTENT TO STEAL. James Belcher and Peter Sorrensen, arrested by Constable Lamb at Little Eiver, were charged with the above offence, and remanded for eight days to allow the police to collect evidence. The Court then adjourned.
