AN ENEMY'S DODGE.
To the Editor of the Akaroa Mail.
Sir, —Will you allow me space through your columns ,to reply to' "Voter's" very fair arid straightforward enquiry. My position with regard to compensation for road diversion is as follows:—
Some months' ago I arranged with tho Road' Board to sellthe necessary land required for road purposes,'fori*S 15 per acre, the Board paying me for fencing. I may further state that I have also a claim for road diversion through jj property leased by me, but this claim is clearly outside Road Board jurisdiction, and for its liquidation I look to the representatives of the late Provincial Government. It must thererore be patent to every elector that if elected a member of the Akaroa and Wainui Road Board my position there cannot affect my private interests in any way, as in the first case I have referred to I have no power to alter the arrangement already made with the Board, and in the second case my claim is outside the authority of the Akaroa and Wainui Road Board altogether to deal with.—l am, Sir, Yours, &c, . COLL MoDONALD.
