FOOTBALL.

AKAROA V. FRENCH FARM

A match took place at French on Tuesday last, between the above clubs, originating in a challenge from French Farm. The Akaroa team went across the harbor in the steam launch at 2 o'clock,

and shortly after arrival play commenced, on a capital piece o_ ground marked out with flags for the occasion. Mr T. S. Baker acted as captain for the French Farm team, and Mr F. F. Barker for the Akaroa representatives. Play commenced by French Farm kicking off, and for some time the ball was kept in close proximity to the Akaroa goal, but after some hard struggling the ball was carried away to the centre of the field, where it remained until Mr Baker, by a piece of flue play, managed to secure a goal for French Farm, after nearly an hour's play The teams then changed, goals, and the play was again renewed with much vigor until almost dark, when Akaroa managed to pass the ball between their opponents' flags, thus making it a drawn game. The play was good on both sides, and the really fine play of Messrs Baker, Snow, and Thompson, was particularly noticeable. A most enjoyable day was spent, the Akaroa team remaining for the entertainment in the evening, and returning to Akaroa by the steam launch, after having had a most pleasant visit.

We hope to see the return match played in Akaroa at an early date, when it is to be hoped that all football players will put in an appearance.
