Wellington, July 10. Market quotations.—Flour, colonial,' £12 to £1210s; hams,9ld ; bacon, 8d ; ■cheese, 7d potatoes, £3 10s,nominal; Gutter, 9d to lOd. Auckland, July 10. A warrant was issued to-day for the •arrest of A. G. Howard, charged with a violent assault on Woolfield, Inspector of Slaughter-houses. The latter alleges that Howard drove last night in a cab to the Thistle Hotel, walked into where Woolfield was standing in the bar, and struck him two violent blows with a riding whip, then walked out. The schooner Merlin arrived at Kaipara from Waitara, and reports while crossing Waitara bar a heavy sea washed two seamen, John Murphy and W. F. Dean overboard. The bar was •so heavy at. the time that no attempt could be made to rescue them, H. M. S. Sappnire sailed this afternoon for New Caledonia. Lyttelton, July 10. The Wanaka, with Frisco mail which left here at 11 p.m. on Monday for Port Chalmers, arrived back in Harbor towed by Ringarooma, at 12.40 a.m. to-day. When about 100 miles to south west of Port Chalmers, at 3 a.m, yesterday, very heavy head sea running, she lost the whole of the blades of the propeller. Wind southerly and westerly. Sail was made, and the vessel headed back up the coast. At 6 p.m yesterday, when off Akaroa, the Ringarooma picked her up, and towed her in. The mails and passengers were transhipped into the Ringarooma, which sailed south at 8 this morning. The Wanaka has not sustained any further damage. Christchurch, July 10. A a meeting of the Road Board Conference torday, Mr Joynt gave, his opinion regarding the non-payment of the balance of the Land Fund, and the Conference unanimously resolved that this conference having heard the opinion of counsel on the subject of the recovery of the balance of the Land Fund, due to 31st December last, is of opinion that the necessary proceedings he taken with the least possible delay, and the Conference therefore request Mr Joynt to take the necessary steps accordingly. Several letters were read from outlying Road Boards, promising co-operation in the proceedings against the Government. Timaru, July 10. A married woman named Mrs Mead -was found dead by her husband who had missed her from her bed. She was on the floor at the side of the bed on her knees. The Orangemen at Timaru celebrate the anniversary of the Battle of the Boyne to-morrow evening. A banquet and ball on a grand scale will take place.
