BOARD OF HEALTH.

A meeting of the above was held immediately after the sitting of the Borough Council on Wednesday evening last. Present—Messrs Waeckerle, in the chair, Penlington, Culler., Bridge, O'Reilly. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. A letter from Mr March was read, in reply to one from the Board, promising that the Hospital drain should be carried into the sea, so that each tide would wash away all refuse. Mr O'Reilly suggested that the Government be requested to lay water on and keep the drain regularly Hushed. The Clerk explained that the flushing of the drain had been provided for. Mr Cullen proposed that the Clerk receive a guinea as remuneration for his trouble in distributing the notices re fumigation. Mr Bridge, in seconding the proposal, paid a well-deserved compliment to the energy and promptitude which the Clerk had displayed on the occasion. Mr O'Reilly would like to see the sum made two guineas. The motion was carried unanimously. Mr O'Reilly proposed that the provisions of the Public Health Act with regard to cesspools be strictly put in force, the Inspector to report to the next meeting. Mr Bridge seconded the proposition, and in doing so pointed out that two of the hotels in the town had already had notice to this effect, and he thought most stringent measures should be taken in the matter. lie considered it highly derogatory that their notices should be paid no attention to, and perhaps put in the fire. The motion was then put and carried. Mr Cullen called attention to the offensive state of a drain in Brittan-street. The Inspector was instructed to report on the matter. Mr Penlington wished to draw the attention of the Board to the quention of the pollution of creeks. Pie would like that the Inspeftor should visit those properties whose occMipiers allowed offensive matter to drain into the creeks. ~ Mr- O'Reilly 'proposed that the Inspector take action in the matter of an offensive drain on Mrs Guindon's property. Agreed to. The Board then adjourned.
