INTERPROVINCIAL TELEGRAMS.

[per press agency.]

Wellington, July 1.

The storm on Saturday evening, which raged along the West Coast of this Island, did some damage to the Wanganui Telegraph Office. A flash of lightning struck the office, melting and setting fire to all the leading wires, and completely fusing all the connections off the test board and round the wall, setting fire to the office in several places. The principal operator, who was jast entering the office, was blown violently backwards against the wall, and rendered senseless for a time. On recovering himself, he managed to extinguish the flames in the office. Several poles close by were shattered to pieces. The mechanician started by the Stormbird yesterday afternoon to repair damages. Communication with New Plymouth and Waitara is expected to be open to-day.

Criminial Sittings of the Supreme Court opened this morning. Amongst the cases are charges of obtaining goods under false pretences, larceny, sheep stealing, fraudulent bankruptcy, attempt to murder, indecent assault, hprsc stealing, assault with intent, cutting and wounding, robbery. Referring to the charge against O'Connor for attempting to poison Light, the landlord of Barrett's hotel, the Chief Justice said as long as the jury thought O'Connor put poison in the glass no matter with what object they could find a true bill against him.

The Grand Jury, instead of finding a true bill against O'Connor for administering poison with intent to kill Wm, Light, found a true bill that prisoner was guilty of administering poison with a view to injure, which is only misdemeanor.

An Industrial and Fine Arts Exhibition at the "Working Men's Club was opened by His Excellency the Governor to-day.

Dunedin, July 1.

The Dunedin election resulted in a majority for Oliver of 769. Eeeves, 658. Oliver's party worked very hard, and scarcely any effort was made on behalf of Reeves.
