AN EXPLANATION.
To the Editor of the Akaroa MaiL
Sib,—As your leading article last issue might lead the public to believe that the Akaroa and Wainui Road Board had made payments for certain land purchased for road purposes, and withheld the publication of such payments in the ordinary reports of their meetings published in your valuable paper, I beg respectfully to inform you that all aotual payments hitherto made by this Board, so far as I am aware, have been placed at the disposal of your reporter, whether you have published the same or not. 'Tis true the awards of 'the arbitrators have been made some time since, but the money cannot be <paid until the Solicitor to the Board obtains a proper title for the land required. While recognising the desirability of giving the utmost publicity .and of keeping the ratepayers posted up in every matter affecting their interests, I cannot take upon myself to advertise the whole of these land transactions until the Board has authorised the .payment. Yours, &c, J. DUXBURY, Chairman Akaroa and Wainui Koad Board. ißobinson's Bay, July 1.
