"DIOGENES" AND THE ROAD BOARD.
To iKe Editor of the AJearoa Mail,
Sir, —Will you be kind enough to let us know what has become of " Diogenes." Has his lamp burnt so low that he expects an explosion, and wishes to stand by quietly and see the end ? He has hinted at certain things that have been kept in the dark from the public concerning some member or members of a Road Board who have had rather more than a fair share of the public funds allowed them as compensation for land that has been taken for road diversion.
Mr Editor, I think that the ratepayers iave a right to a thorough knowledge of all compensation allowed by the Board, -and if they cannot get a fair explanation from the members of the Board, let the ratepayers come forward and ask them to resign, and place men on the Board who will give publicity to their actions through jour columns, and gain the confidence of the ratepayers. Come, Diogenes, trim your lamp again, do not allow it to go out again till the Board has published the full amount of all compensation paid or granted by arbitration since the commencement of the present year, and to whom granted. Yours, &c, ALADDIN. June 10,1878.
