INTERPROVINCIAL TELBGRAMSr Wellington, June 5. THE RESULTS Of THE NEW LOAN.
The news published by the New Zealand.er%\n& morning that the loan had been successfully floated caused great excitement, and has given greatly increased vitality to trade. At a land auction to-day, the auctioneer read out the annouivcement, and property realised unexpectedly high prices. The Government are not yet aware of the average price realised as the allotment was {not made, but it will be something over par. The loan is a five per cent one, with a currency of from ten to forty yearaat the borrowers' option. Full particulars are expected late to-night. Authorised public works will now be vigorously proceeded with. Already the Nelson people have been informed that no time will be lost in accepting tenders for the port extension.
San Juan Times : some years ago, physician, well known hereabouts, was called to see a lady who was reported to be suffering with terrible pain. The physician hastened to the residence of the lady, and found her in bed. He felt of her pulse, looked at her tongue, and commenced writing a prescription. She said to him :—" Doctor, I don't think you understand my case.', " Oh, yes I do," said he, " I understand it very well." After a while, the lady remarked to him again : " Doctor, I don't think you know what's the matter with me ; that yoU understand my condition." The doctor replied : " Oh, yes I do, madam ; I have a patient up town, a young man, just in your fix ; suffering with the same disease." An hour afterward, the lady gave birth to a ten-pound boy
A Detroit boy stood an umbrella, with a cord tied to it, in a public door-way. Eleven persons thought, that that unit brella was theirs, and carried it with them the length of the string. They then suddenly dropped it, and '%ent off without once looking back or stopping to pick it up again.
