AKAROA RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

Friday, May 17. (Before Juslin Ayhner, Esq., R.M.) WILFUL DESTRUCTION' OF CATTLE.

John Le Comte, jun., was charged with maliciously killing a pig, the property of Robert, Stuart, oL' Barry's Bay.

Mrs Sfriart gave evidence as to the value ol the pig destroyed. It was a Berkshire sow, and she valued it at;sos.

Defendant said he did not mean to kill the animal. The pigs were trespassing, and he tired at them, intending to frighten them.

The Bench pointed out the serious namro of the charge, which constituted an indictable .offence. If sent for trial, he would be liable, on conviction, to two years' imprisonment. In consideration of defendant's youth, and the fact that, others were' probably more to blame than hinihimself, the ca.se would be leniently dealt with. Fined H5 and costs, and ordered to pay the value of the pig, in default, one month's imprisonment. CIVIL CASE. Macintosh v. Coyne. — This case had been adjourned from Pigeon Bay. Judgment was now given for the amount claimed with costs. The Court then adjourned. Tuesday, May 21. (Before E. C. Latter, and H. H. Fenton, Esqs., J's.P., DRUNKENNESS. One inebriate, it being his first, appearance in Court, was dismissed with the usual caution. BREACH OF HARBOK REGULATIONS. J. Aylmer v. Maltby and others.—Mr Nalder for defendants. This was a case arising from the defendants having removed shingle from the foreshore near the residence of Mr Holding. Mr Ayhner. as Harbormaster, -warned the defendants to discontinue the removal of the shingle, and as his injunctions were disregarded, lie took the matter into Court, in order, as he explained, that his jurisdiction as Harbormaster, .should be regarded. No evidence was calied, and after a short consideration with the learned counsel for the defence, the Bench gave judgment-in Mr Aylmer's favor. The defendants to pay the costs. The Court then adjourned.
