LONG BAY ROAD DIVERSION.
To the Editor of the. Akaroa Mail.
Sir, —I should like to make my grievance <known to the public through your columns. I do not think that the Road Board have acted honorably toward me, but any way, faere is a copy of a latter I received from the Board, you must judge for yourselves "whether lam right or not. "By instructions, in answer to your letter of the Ist instant (re Diversion Long Bay road, through your property), wherein you state that you would like to see the road proceeded with, provided that the line of survey was altered, you not agreeing with the line as surveyed by Mr Fenton, the Board, after .considering your letter, and the report from the Clerk of the Board, •consulted the Engineer, who explained that the pegs on the line of survey are on the lower side of the road, and not in the middle, as supposed by you. Such being the case, the Board trust you will view it favorably, and accept the same terms as Mr Morgan. If so, the Board will put the work in hand at once. Please reply." In my reply I stated that I was willing to let the road pass through my property keeping the pegs for the lower side. Thinking the question was settled, judge of my surprise, when I found Kenny had signed his specifications, which clearly stated tbe pegs were in the middle of the road, and the agreement come to between me and the Board lost sight of altogether. Now, Mr Editor, can you tell me how the Board make this out? They say they take no moro land from me than was agreed, and by .their own letter you can see that they take their road thirty-three feet lower down for sixteen 'chains, which makes a difference of three-quarters of an acre to me. It strikes me very forcibly that this is another engineering blunder, and the Board wish to saddle the loss on my back, instead of acting fairly, by acknowledging their blunder, and paying me the compensation for the land they take from me. Apologising your valuable space, I remain, yours, &c,
EUGENE LELIEVRE.
