CountyCouncil, had been duly forwarded. It was ordered that the information required by the Secretary for Public Works be furnished also. - ~

Messrs Snow and AneonV applicationbeing considered, it was .discovered that there is no road reserye up the Valley, " therefore the board declined to entertain the matter," considering that it would be injudicious to .assist in making a rojd through freehold property, but that those gentlemen be informed that, as it ia the intention of the board to employ the County Council Engineer on survey and * other matters, they would if possible endeavour to meet their} views ;at some future time when a public road is defined. /> With reference to Fittan Bros. appli- *'* cation, the Board intimated that the cottage being placed on the road at the owner's risk, and without the Board's consent, they decline to interfere. Relative to the second application, the Board could not comply with the request.

Several applications were made to ' they Board by contractors, who had discovered that they had taken work at prices which would scarcely supply them with the necessaries of life; and asking for some assistance.

The Board complied with the request in one or two instances, but expressed* theft firm determination not to entertain any" application of the kind in future.

The term for which the sum of £5000 was declared a fixed deposit, expiring on the 3rd May, it was resolved to mease one thousand, and deposit four thousand for a further period of four months. The Board decided upon various matters as follows:—

That tenders be invited for forming and metalling about two miles of the new road in continuation of the works in hand, about 100 chains of this section being'on the right bank of the Halswell river.

That W. Bevin's offer to cart and spread 360 yards of road metal south of" Kaituna, at ls 6d per yard, be accepted.

• h That the Akaroa and Wainui Board be informed that the supervision of the main road, from Barry's Bay saddle to Libeau's „ "cottage,by the-Little River Road Board would cease from date. ThattheCounty Council be applied to for the sum of £900 special grant for a road from Mount Bossu range to the i* beach end of Lake Forsyth, the Board expressing their willingness to undertake the work. Thatthe Engineer to the County Council be employed to design some protective works above the upper bridge at Little River. • That tenders be. invited for clearing about 16 chains of the main road near the Beach Hotel.

Mr Stanbury, the poundkeeper at Little River, interviewed the Board about various matters connected with the pound, and it was decided to mature some definite <arrangenment -against the next meeting of the Board, on the 3rd of June.
