Dunedin, April 18. A writ for £2000 damages was yesterday served on the proprietors of the Daily Times, at the instance of Mr C. E. Haughton, for alleged libel. The matters complained of, it is stated, were

contained in a leading article, published in the Times of March 15, and in a letter signed " Morality," which appeared in last Tuesday's issue of the same journal.

McClaren, the self-constituted leader •of the working men's demonstrations, was charged with riotous behaviour and drunkenness. He was released on bail on the protnise that he would clear out to Victoria on Sunday next.
