Blenheim, April 8
Census returns of Blenheim completed, shewing 873 males to 817 females. In 1874 males numbered 394. females, 441. There is thus an increase of 73. Picton in 1874 contained 893 males, 339 females; now 351 males, 357 females, being a decrease of 24. Total in province, 6145 in 1874; now 7752. Lyttelton, April 8. The boat, belonging to the ketch Blackwall was picked up to-day by the Essy and Agnes, Captain James, eight miles off the Long Look-out. Timabu, April 8. A meeting has been convened at
Temuka for Wednesday, to consider, the advisability of bringing the Counties' Act into full force. Gkraldine, April 8. It is stated that several Timaru people intend starting for New Guinea the first favorable opportunity. Punk din, April 8. Yesterday, Bishop Moran delivered adiscourse on the marriage question. He explained that marriages by Registrar, though sinful, and carrying with them the penalty of excommunication in the case of Catholics, yet were valid, and no power on earth could dissolve them.
