AKAROA COUNTY COUNCIL.

A meeting of this Council was held yesterday, March 8, at Garwood's House on the Hill-top. All the members were present, except Mr Fleming, of Port Levy. The following resolution was carried : —"That this Council concur in the resolutions regarding the management of hospitals and charitable aid, as passed at the Conference held in Christchurch jon the 21st March last."

The grant for cemeteries was allocated as follows: —Le Bon's, Okain's, Little Akaloa, £40 each ; Head of the Bay, £80; Wainui, £50 ; Pigeon Bay, £50 ; Little River, £50 (contingent on a sum of £150 promised by the Government not being paid) ; Port Victoria (Governor's Bay), £10; Akaroa, £115. The amount voted to Akaroa was divided as under : — Church of England, £40 ; Roman Catholic, £30; Free Church of Scotland, £30 ; Dissenters, £15. The grant for Domains was divided as follows -.—Akaroa Domain, £500 ; and the remainder (£400) to be equally divided among the following places-.—Head of the Bay, Wainui, Little River, Okain's Bay, Little Akaloa, Pigeon Bay, and Le Bon's Bay. A scale of wharfage for the jetties in the Okain's Bay district was fixed. Letters were read from the Road Boards at Little River, Akaroa and Wainui, Port Levy and Governor's Bay re the question of Road Boards contributing pro rata to the salary of the County Engineer. The Chairman was instructed to apply to the Government for the funds accruing to the County. Applications were ordered to be invited for the office of Engineer to the Council, Mr E. S. Latter was appointed clerk to the Council till the end of the year at a salary of £5 per month and the Council adjourned till Thursday the 25th inst., at 11 a.m. We shall furnish a full report of the proceedings in our next issue. ■
