Christchurch, April _. John Simmonds, in the Little River forgery case, was found guilty, but the case was reserved for the Court of Appeal, on a point raised by his counsel, Mr Joynt, Robert Macfarlan_, ; jun., was sentenced to six months' hard labor, on each of three indictments, the sentences to run concurrently. (From the.Press Agency.) Auckland, April 4. Mrs Warren, found not guilty of arson, but sentenced to six months on the charge of larceny, in stealing Mrs Harris's clothes. Russell, whose clothes were found on the shore of the harbour, was arrested to-day on three charges of embezzlement. Wellington, April 4. The'S.s. Wanganui was discovered at daylight this morning, riding at anchor, evidently disabled, six miles south of Wanganui Heads, about a mile and a half from shore, flying signals of distress. There were nine passengers. Sent for assistance to Nelson and Wellington. No steamer in the port of Wanganui. She is now riding heavily, her keel being visible at times. If. the \rind rises, her position will be dangerous.
