IMPROVEMENTS AT LITTLE RIVER.

To the Editor of the Akaroa Mail.

Sir, —I noticed a paragraph in the Mail last week wherein it was stated that a track was being cleared up a spur in Little Eiver Bush, leading in the direction of Port Levy ; that the width was to be six feet, consequently an error of judgment ; also, that a road leading to Okute Valley was being raised four feet. Now, if your penny-a-liner will trot up the spur above indicated, say at five o'clock in the morning, he will discover two things— Firstly, that the track is on an average twelve feet wide; and secondly, that should he happen to be dyspeptic, he will ■on his return have secured a tolerable appetite. With reference to the four feet elevation, he is equally astray, and, in fact, does not appear to know anything about the matters he undertakes to enlighten your patrons upon. Your paragraphist is evidently satisfied that he is qualified either tq assume the post of censor upon men and things in general, or to pat them on the back with a selfgratulatory grunt of approval. Should you, Sir, contemplate employing a war correspondent, there would be no harm in giving him a trial, as be is evidently endowed with a fertile imagination, and should hiß constitutional timidity be an insurmountable obstacle to his venturing within the smell of gunpowder, I have no doubt that his description of imaginary battles would answer every purpose. Yours &c, J. W.
