LITTLE RIVER ROAD BOARD.

A meeting of the above was held at the office, in Kaituna, on Monday, the 25th ultimo. Present—Messrs Parkinson (Chairman), Gebbie, Coop, and Goodwin. The following correspondence was received *. — From the Lincoln Road Board, intimating that the Board had let the repairs of a bridge known as Perryman's to Mr John Breeze for tho sum of £15, and asking the Board to contribute toward-- the cost thereof ; also, asking for some assistance in clearing the Hallswell River. From the Chairman of the County Council, in reply, relative to the Ahuriri road diversion, Christchurch and Akaroa main road. From the Akaroa and Wainui Road Board, describing the names by which the Mount Bossu junction roads are known. From the same, stating their determination to cancel a tormer agreement with this Board, and revert to the original boundary of the district. From Mr John Gerken, relative to the formation of a road leading to his and others' property. A report upon the various works was submitted for consideration, and it being

reported that the contractor for carting metal on M'Queen's Flat was not proceeding with his work satisfactorily, it was made an order that he be requested to procure more teams so as to expedite the work before the road gets to be too wet for further operations. In reply to the Lincoln Road Board, it was resolved that they be informed that the Board decline to contribute towards the cost of the bridge in its present position, it being placed there more to meet the views and convenience of one or two individuals rather than the general public; also, with reference to clearing the Halswell river, it was ordered that they be referred to the first schedule of the Counties' Act, 1876, wherein the boundary of the Selwyn County is defined. It was resolved to advertise for tenders j for the following works :—Building two bridges over the Halswell river on the line of new road between Ahuriri and Gebbie's Flat; carting and spreading 2000 yards pf metal in Big Bay, to be let in three Sections; forming about 20 chains at the south end of the new road diversion on Gebbie's Flat; also, for removing rock and forming certain portions of the same road. A large number of tenders were opened for various works, and one accepted in each case. The estimates of the various tenderers were generally as eccentric as usual, there being a difference in some instances of from 400 to 500 per cent.
