(From the Press Agency.) Auckland, Feb. 25. Arrived—Mazeppa, from Fiji. Fijian *f telegrams report wreck of German barque Helena, on Island Meriki, Fiji. H.M.S. Sapphire, gone to Samoa with Governor Gordon.
Kumara, Feb. 25. Sir George Grey arrived here by special traia this afternoon and was met 'by the Mayor and Council. He had a most enthusiastic reception. There will be a banquet to night. * Wellington, Feb. 25. Tbe Wairarapa Standard says it has authority for stating that ministers have in contemplation the publishing twice * daily for the benefit of the morning and evening papers, and tor transmission throughout the colony, a " Government Circular," giving briefly an account of all business transacted or to be transacted during: the day ; the first number probably to be issued on the return of the Premier to Wellington. Lyttelton, Feb. 25. Arrived—James Wishart, barque, from London, chartered by Shaw, Saville and Co., 104 days out from Gravesend, nine passengers, all well. Captain Keardon,of schooner Mary Ogilvie, just arrived from Wangaroa, *■> reports that he sighted a schooner ashore oh the east side of Cape Palliser on Saturday. Donedin, Feb. 25. An important case came on in the Police Court to-day. Cameron, the origirintor of the Duhedin Cup consultation, was prosecuted under the Town and Country Police Ordinance, prohibiting lotteries. Case postponed till Saturday, to enable the Magistrate to * consider whether participators in the sweep would criminate themselves by giving evidence. Great dissatisfaction is daily displayed '*• re the Education Act. A number of deputations from country school committees hare waited on the Education Board, asking for funds for school accommodation. Hundreds of children refused admittance already to overcrowded schools. Only £10,000 available for Otago, and .£50,000 would hardly be sufficient for proper accommodation.
