Greymouth, Feb. 21
Sir George Grey and par-iy arrived here at noon "to-day ; they met with a most enthusiastic reception, the day being observed as a holiday. An address was presented hj, the,.Borough Council. The party, are be entertained at a banquet this evening. • . . Westpout, Feb. 21. Sir George Grey and the Ministerial party were entertained at a banquet last evening. Sir George afterwards addressed a large meeting, when a vote of thanks was accorded him,, with cheers. The speech made a favourable impression.
Wellington, Feb. 21
Four Government clerks have been told off to work up the evidence in the case of Fred Whitaker, late AttorneyGeneral, and George Jones, jun., All papers in connection with any land- transactions in the Waikato since 1876 are being raked out, and all original letters in connection with these transactions will be produced in the Supreme Court, by Mr Clarke,
Under-Secretary, Native Department. It is said the case will be opened the first week in March. Groat efforts are being made on the part of tiie Customs Department for a suitable site for a lighthouse at Cape Egmont.
